Most small businesses do not need a large website. They need a handful of pages that say clearly what they do, where they do it and how to get in touch, and they need those pages to turn up when someone nearby searches.
That is the work we do most often. You deal with Martin Phillips throughout, and the site is built on WordPress, so you own it, can edit it yourself and can move it to another developer or host if you ever need to.
What a typical small business site includes
For most of our small business clients, that means:
- A home page that explains what you do, and who for, in the first few lines
- A page for each main service, written around what customers actually search for
- An about page, contact details and a map, so people can check you are real and local
- An enquiry form that emails you and keeps a record of every submission
- Page titles, descriptions and structured data set up properly from the start
- A handover session so you can change text, photos and prices yourself
Keeping the cost sensible
The quickest way to overspend on a small business website is to pay for features before you know you need them. Online booking, a shop or a members area can all be added later, and we would rather build a solid five-page site now than a half-finished fifteen-page one.
It also helps to have your text and photos ready. Waiting for content is the most common reason small projects slow down, and delays cost money. If writing is not your strength, we can help you shape the copy from a conversation.

Getting found locally
For a small business, the website works alongside your Google Business Profile rather than instead of it. Many local enquiries start in the map results, so we make sure the profile and the site show the same name, address, phone number and opening hours, and that each service on the profile has a matching page on the site.

A straightforward small business site with a handful of pages typically starts in the low thousands of pounds. Online booking, e-commerce or a large number of pages add to that. We give you a fixed price in writing after a first conversation, so there are no hourly surprises.
How long does it take?
Most business websites take six to ten weeks from brief to launch. A small site with the text and photos ready can move faster. The most common cause of delay is waiting for content.
I am a sole trader. Do I need a website?
Often, but not always. For some businesses a well-kept Google Business Profile does most of the work, and we will tell you if that applies to you. Where a website does make sense, a few clear pages are usually enough to start with.
Can I update the website myself?
Yes. You can edit text, photos, pages and posts without touching code, and we show you how at handover. If you would rather not, we can make changes for you under a support plan.
Do you only work with businesses in Sussex?
No. We are based in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, and work with small businesses in Sussex, Kent and across the UK. Most projects run by video call and email.
