Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 September 2026
This policy explains how Rockhopper Digital collects and uses personal information when you visit rockhopperdigital.co.uk or contact us. We keep it short because we collect very little.
Who we are
Rockhopper Digital is an independent web design and digital consultancy run by Martin Phillips, based at Woodside, Brightling Road, Robertsbridge, East Sussex, TN32 5EL. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Rockhopper Digital is the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect and why
Enquiry form
When you send an enquiry we collect your name, email address, optional phone number, your message and the page you sent it from. We use this only to reply to you and to discuss the work you have asked about. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, and taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
The enquiry is emailed to us, stored securely in the website’s database so it is not lost if an email fails, and you receive an automatic acknowledgement email.
Email, phone and WhatsApp
If you email, call or message us, we use your contact details and what you send to reply. The WhatsApp button opens WhatsApp, which is operated by WhatsApp (Meta). Messages sent that way are also subject to WhatsApp’s privacy policy.
Clients
If you become a client, we keep the contact, project and billing records needed to deliver the work and meet our legal and accounting obligations.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site, such as which pages are viewed and whether an enquiry was sent. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_*, lasting up to 2 years) and processes information such as your approximate location, device and browser. We do not use it to identify you, and IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Google acts as our data processor; see Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. We do not use advertising cookies.
If an enquiry form submission has an error, a short-lived functional cookie holds what you typed so you do not have to re-enter it; it is deleted once the form is sent or when it expires. Logged-in site administrators also receive standard WordPress cookies. Fonts are served from our own server, so no font requests go to third parties.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent personal information. It is only handled by the services needed to run the business: our UK website hosting and email provider, and where relevant our accountant. Each is bound by its own data protection obligations. We will disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to work: up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Client project and contact records: for the length of the working relationship and up to 6 years afterwards for accounting and legal purposes.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@rockhopperdigital.co.uk and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, enquiries are protected against spam and forged submissions, and access to stored data is limited to site administrators.
Changes
We will update this page if the way we handle information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
